VŠPJ is working on documentation aimed at securing the HR Excellence in Research award

From 2026, the Jihlava Polytechnic University plans to participate in the process leading to the award of the internationally recognised HR Excellence in Research award. This is not merely a formal label or symbolic award, but a long-term and systematic framework that helps higher education institutions to systematically develop the conditions for high-quality research and creative activity. It focuses on key areas such as transparent and fair recruitment, ethics and research integrity, professional development and the creation of a supportive working environment.

What is HR Excellence in Research (HR Award)

The HR Excellence in Research award is presented by the European Commission to organisations that demonstrably implement the principles of the European Charter for Researchers into their day-to-day practice and continuously assess their implementation. This is not a one-off exercise, but a process based on regular assessment, continuous improvement and renewal in successive cycles. In this way, the organisation demonstrates not only its commitment to internationally recognised standards, but also its ability to effectively incorporate these standards into the institution’s operations.

What is the procedure at VŠPJ

During 2026, VŠPJ intends to formally confirm its commitment to the principles of the European Charter for Researchers. Subsequently, in the coming months, the key supporting documents required for the process will be prepared. Following approval of the so-called endorsement letter, a twelve-month deadline applies, in accordance with European Commission rules, for the submission of the mandatory documentation, in particular:
  • GAP analyses – that is, an assessment of the current situation and the identification of areas for further development,
  • OTM-R checklist – an overview focusing on open, transparent and high-quality procedures for recruiting research staff,
  • Action Plan – a set of specific measures, responsibilities and deadlines that will lead to improvements in current practice.

What this process will bring to staff and the school

Participation in the HR Excellence in Research process will bring benefits to both staff and the institution as a whole. These include, in particular:
  • clearer and more transparent rules, for example in the areas of recruitment, appraisal and working conditions,
  • better support for professional development, including onboarding, mentoring and training,
  • a stronger focus on ethics, integrity and a safe and respectful working environment,
  • greater credibility for VŠPJ amongst national and international partners, as it is a mark of quality recognised throughout Europe.

A collaborative process with an impact on day-to-day practice

It is important to emphasise that this is not merely an administrative process. Staff across the university will be involved in the preparation, both through data collection and by discussing which areas should be prioritised for development in the action plan. The aim is to establish measures that will meet the real needs of VŠPJ, be applicable in day-to-day practice and contribute to improving the quality of the creative and research environment in the long term.
