Selected Chapters of Secondary School Mathematics - Course characteristics

Scope

This leveling course focuses on reviewing selected chapters of secondary school mathematics that are crucial for further study in college. Emphasis is placed on practicing basic concepts, computational procedures, and solving typical problems. Lessons take the form of active work of students with emphasis on understanding and systematic consolidation of knowledge.

For whom

This course is designed primarily for first-semester college students, but is open to all students who wish to review or supplement secondary school mathematics material. It is also designed for applicants to our college as preparation for mathematics courses taken at our school. It is especially recommended before or at the same time as enrolling in a Mathematics course, especially for those who are not confident enough in some topics and want to consolidate their fundamentals.

Goal

The aim of the course is to provide a solid foundation for successful completion of college mathematics and professional courses. The course helps to close any gaps in knowledge and builds confidence in solving mathematical problems.

How the course works

Each block lasts approximately 120 minutes. The initial 30-45 minutes are devoted to explanation and systematic explanation of the material. The following part is used to practice the examples from the current block and, if necessary, to consult the problems from previous meetings.

The second part is largely based on the activity of the students themselves. Students can ask questions about the material covered and about previously solved problems, and the teacher responds to these questions, explaining the procedures and adding the necessary context. The emphasis is on active involvement and individual support according to the actual needs of the participants.

Where can I find the topics and dates of each session

Alternative to the Mathematics Seminar course

For students already enrolled for study at the VŠPJ, this course can serve as an alternative to the Mathematics Seminar course in case they fail to schedule that course. This option is particularly suitable for students in the combined form of study who have limited time and need a more flexible form of support.
