The Polytechnic Academy of VŠPJ offers a continuing education program to deepen and broaden professional competencies (upskilling):
The curriculum was developed as part of the National Recovery Plan for Higher Education project: NPO_VŠPJ_MSMT-16592/2022; 3.2.1 Transformation of universities.
The program is aimed at increasing professional competencies in technical field and is guaranteed by the Department of Technical Studies of the College of Polytechnics Jihlava.
The Industry 4.0 training programme is designed for practitioners involved in the use of new technologies in industry. The form of education is flexible, adapted to the workload and possibilities of the learners. The training is partly full-time and partly online.
Proof of training is a micro-certificate worth 4 credits, which is in line with national standardisation and European recommendations. The document can be shared with other entities in the field of education and the labour market, both in the Czech Republic and abroad. The document is used for the recognition of learning outcomes in further studies.
The training is intended especially for practitioners with technical education (min. high school diploma) - electrical engineers, programmers, mechanical engineers, or people working in research or innovation of methods used in Industry 4.0
The aim of the Industry 4.0 course is to give participants a closer insight into the overall concept of Industry 4.0 and also into selected areas that belong to this industrial transformation. The course will provide the participant with information ranging from the basic principles of PLCs, industrial automation tools, their programming, visualization and operator interface creation to the issues of Industry 4.0, as well as introducing participants in more detail to the topics of artificial intelligence, robotics, communication protocols and their use in Industry 4.0. The participants will be able to use the acquired knowledge and skills in the implementation of Industry 4.0 in existing and emerging companies as well as in research, development of new methods and their innovation within the individual steps/areas of Industry 4.0. During the course, participants will also take field trips, conducted by practitioners, to companies where Industry 4.0 is already established and used.
The educational program includes 3 teaching modules: 1. Industry 4.0 communication standards; 2. Robotics, 3. PLC. The content of the module "Industry 4.0 Communication Standards" is to explain the aspects of changes in industrial production due to the introduction of Industry 4.0, to get acquainted with the distribution of production control, the use of virtual models and modern communication protocols (OPC UA). The content of the module "Robotics" is to introduce the practical use of industrial robots in combination with the use of virtualization tools and image data and to solve tasks leading to the control of robots. The scope of the module "PLC Programming"is the introduction to PLC principles, industrial automation tools, programming, visualization and operator interface creation to Industry 4 issues. The educational programme includes excursions led by experts from practice to partner companies of the College of Polytechnics Jihlava, where Industry 4.0 has been successfully implemented for a long time. A detailed description of the topics of the educational modules is given in the "Educational topics" tab.
The training program consists of 116 hours of training that can be completed in 3-4 months of intensive study divided into full-time classes, online classes and self-study. Face-to-face teaching consists of tutorials and practical exercises, online part includes consultations with teachers on practically guided tasks, self-study part allows the participant to learn independently at his/her own pace in the learning environment of the VŠPJ. The education is complemented by excursions to selected partner companies of the VŠPJ. All educational activities are practically oriented and are led by university experts and external experts from practice.
-Knowledgei: The participant will be familiar with the following areas - basic principles of Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence and its use in Industry 4.0, PLC programming, robotics and communication protocols and their use in Industry 4.0. The participant will understand the interconnections between the different areas.
-Skills: The participant will be able to use the acquired knowledge in the implementation of Industry 4.0 in practice, in the operation of Industry 4.0, but also in the development of methods targeted for use in Industry 4.0
-General Competencies: The student will gain an overview of the current state of the art in Industry 4.0 in general and in selected areas.
The training programme will be implemented in the period February - June 2026. The classroom part of the training will be divided into 4 teaching blocks (4-6 hours per day) and will take place in professional classrooms of the College of Polytechnics Jihlava (Tolstého 16, Jihlava) on Fridays in the afternoon. The timetable will be published on the website under the "Timetable" tab.
The participant is obliged to complete 80% of the full-time training and to complete the practical tasks with a minimum of 75% success rate. The training is completed with a practically oriented final thesis on a selected topic of approximately 5 - 20 pages. A template for the final paper will be provided to the participant. Successful graduates will receive proof of the learning outcome in the form of a microcertificate.
The price for the pilot verification of the Industry 4.0 training programme will be CZK 19,900. Payment is made by bank transfer according to the payment regulations sent by the organizers.
Application for the training programme will open in November 2025 via an online application form. The maximum capacity of the pilot programme is 10 participants (the programme will be opened with a minimum of 8 participants). Admission is determined by the date of submission of the application and the fulfilment of the admission requirements (see below). Participation in the training programme does not require an entrance exam. In the event that the minimum capacity of participants is not met, the course will be rescheduled for the winter semester.
A candidate for training must have completed at least secondary general or vocational education culminating in a secondary school leaving examination. Participants in the training programme are expected to have basic knowledge of English (ability to read and understand technical documentation and demonstration manuals in AJ), basic knowledge of programming (the practical part of the Industry 4.0 training programme will be conducted in MATLAB, the other part in C).
