About the Senate

The Academic Senate is a self-governing representative body of a public university composed of representatives of the academic staff and students of the school.

The competences of the Academic Senate are determined by Act No. 111/1998 Coll. (the Higher Education Act), and its proceedings are governed by the Election Rules of the Academic Senate of the Higher Education Institution and the Rules of Procedure of the Academic Senate of the Higher Education Institution. The main powers of the AS of the HEI include in particular the right to propose the appointment and dismiss the Rector, to approve the internal regulations, to approve the budget of the HEI, to approve the annual activity report and the annual report on the management of the HEI submitted by the Rector, to approve the report on the internal evaluation of the quality of educational, creative and related activities and the amendments to this report, and to approve the strategic plan of the educational and creative activities of the HEI and the annual plan for the implementation of the strategic plan submitted by the Rector. The Academic Senate shall give prior approval to the Rector for the appointment and removal of members of the Academic Board, members of the Internal Evaluation Board and members of the Disciplinary Committee.

The members of the Academic Senate shall be elected by secret ballot from among themselves by the academic community of the University of Applied Sciences. Academic staff elects members of the Academic Chamber of the AS VŠPJ, students elect members of the Student Chamber of the AS VŠPJ.
The AS VŠPJ has a total of 15 members, 5 in the Student Chamber and 10 in the Academic Chamber. The term of office is three years. The meetings of the AS VŠPJ are open to the public. The AS may set up working committees to prepare documents and opinions for the meetings; a member of the committee does not necessarily have to be a member of the AS of the VŠPJ.
