Academic Council

The Academic Council is a self-governing academic body of a public university. Its chairman is the rector, who appoints and dismisses the other members of the academic council.

The competences of the Academic Council are determined by Act No. 111/1998 Coll. (the Higher Education Act), and its proceedings are governed by the Rules of Procedure of the Academic Council. The Academic Council discusses, on the proposal of the Rector, the draft strategic plan for the educational and creative activities of the university; it approves the study programmes submitted by the Rector, approves the intention to submit an application for accreditation, an extension of accreditation or an extension of the period of validity of accreditation of study programmes submitted by the Rector; it approves, on the proposal of the Rector, the intention to submit an application for institutional accreditation for an area or areas of education and the extension of institutional accreditation for another area or areas of education; it approves, on the proposal of the Rector, the intention to renounce institutional accreditation and the intention to cancel degree programmes. The Academic Council also discusses the draft rules of the system of quality assurance of educational, creative and related activities and the internal evaluation of the quality of educational, creative and related activities of the higher education institution; it discusses the draft report on the internal evaluation of the quality of educational, creative and related activities of the higher education institution and the draft amendments to this report. It discusses the draft annual report on the activities of the higher education institution. The Academic Board shall express its opinion, in particular, on matters submitted to it by the Rector.
