The College of Polytechnics Jihlava empowers its students to step beyond borders and discover new perspectives abroad

The College of Poyltechnics Jihlava offers its students the opportunity to gain international experience through study stays at partner universities abroad. One such example is Jiří David, who took the chance to spend a semester at the prestigious National Chin-Yi University of Technology in Taiwan. The experience not only deepened his professional knowledge, but also broadened his perspective on education and culture. Let’s revisit his inspiring journey and explore the possibilities that academic mobility can offer.

Jiří David, now a graduate of the continuing master’s program Applied Engeneering at the College of Polytechnics Jihlava, took advantage of the opportunity to study abroad and spent the winter semester of 2024/2025 at the prestigious National Chin-Yi University of Technology (NCUT) in Taiwan. For Jiří it was a unique chance to immerse himself in one of the world’s most dynamic technological environments.

At NCUT, he chose courses focused on machine vision, machine learning, and advanced thermomechanics – areas that have long been of interest to him. Although most classes were taught in Chinese, English was commonly used, and communication with professors went smoothly. "The university has modern technical facilities, from CNC workshops to robotics labs. The projects are often hands-on and connected to real-world applications, which I really appreciated,” Jiří says.

Studying in Taiwan follows a different rhythm than back home. Instead of traditional lectures, students attend long teaching blocks where they work on more complex tasks and projects. “The professors are very supportive, and if a student shows interest and motivation to grow, they really help you move forward,” Jiří adds.

Beyond academics, Jiří’s stay in Taiwan was also a rich cultural experience. „People here are warm and friendly. I was surprised when locals invited us to a family celebration — and even to a wedding. It was unexpected but truly heartwarming,“ he recalls. Taiwan gave him new perspectives not only on education, but also on how to understand different cultures and traditions.

This experience helped Jiří broaden his view of technical fields as well as the possibilities of learning and collaboration abroad. „I recommend studying outside the Czech Republic to every student. It’s not just about gaining new knowledge — it’s also about personal growth and seeing things from a new perspective.“
