Guide services in practice | Ing. Martina Drašarová

Form: Lecture

Course description: Tour guide activities are irreplaceable in the field of tourism with technical aids. The guide is at the heart of the event. He or she represents the travel agency and communicates with service providers. The guide provides clients with information on the course of the tour, deals with emergency situations, and is in constant contact with them. The tour guide supervises the smooth running of the programme and the quality of the services provided. This job cannot be done only for financial reasons. The important prerequisite is love for people, empathy and interest in their problems. The tour guide should love travelling and exploring foreign lands, and should also be a lifelong learner, following professional literature and information on the Internet. At the College of Polytechnics, we interpret the basic terminology spiced with our practical experience in the Introduction to Tour Guiding, Methodology of Tour Guiding, and last but not least, we are already dealing with it in depth actively during several days of the Field Trip.

Objective: To gain knowledge in the field of guiding and its application to practice.

Content: legal requirements, types of trades, guide's license, types of guiding trades, relationship between guide and tour operator, guide's agenda, basic guide equipment, guide's duties, guide's social protocol, guide's working styles, guide's role, guide's verbal and non-verbal communication, emergency situations in tourism, international guide's day.

Aids: Computer, data projector, possibly a microphone.

Lecturer: Ing. Martina Drašarová
